i'm hannah.

i’m passionate about people and the stories they choose to tell — about themselves, about one another, and about the world.i'm currently a producer for Short Wave, NPR's science podcast. in the past, i've helped tell audio and digital stories about everything from crime to coral to climate change.i'm based in Brooklyn, New York.


who i am

i'm third-gen Chinese American, born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. i use they/them pronouns. i speak conversationally fluent German and somewhat less fluent Spanish.i'm also:
- a ceramicist (ceramist? who's to say?)
- an exvangelical (ask me about it...)
- a reader of horror movie plot summaries on Wikipedia

what i do

i'm primarily an audio producer! this means that sometimes i book guests, sometimes i report stories, sometimes i cut tape, sometimes i write scripts, sometimes i lead edits, sometimes i manage newsletters, and sometimes i photoshop my boss's face onto movie stills for our team meetings.i've helped make a variety of audio and digital features, including the ones linked below:


where i've been

i'm currently living in Brooklyn, where i moved to help produce the investigative podcast Conviction. prior to that, i worked on Gimlet shows How to Save a Planet and Reply All.previous pit stops include WHYY, Philadelphia's local NPR station, as well as Willamette Week and The Philadelphia Inquirer. in between, i've done freelance reporting for Next City and The Guardian, plus worked a number of non-journalism gigs at various vintage stores, coffee shops, and haunted houses.i completed my undergraduate degree at Bryn Mawr College, where i double majored in Sociology and English.you can find my full professional resume here.
